  1. In my view, the most major environmental issue in big cities is air pollution. We have a lot of cars and factories, which produce exhaust fumes. They destroy the ozone layer, form blanket around the Earth. As a result we have too much ultraviolet radiation. People face with global warming. In addition the elderly and many people have breathing difficulties. To sum up we must reduce quantity of cars and plant more trees.

    1. I agree with Maria and I think we should use public transport, ride bicycles more, use unleaded patrol and put filters on factory chimneys.

    2. We usually think that air pollution is something outside - some smog or haze hanging in the air. But the truth is, the air inside homes, offices, and other buildings can be more polluted than the air outside. It's called inside air pollution.

  2. Ther are many big cities on our planet. They become bigger and bigger every day. But at the same time environmental issues damage our life.
The development of industry in big cities pollutes their atmosphere with industrial smoke, dust and other harmful things. The oceans, seas, rivers and lakes are poisoned with industrial waste. More than that, factories, plants and city transport badly affect on the citizens by the increasing noise level which is bad for human health. Many animals and birds are losing their natural habitats because the developers cutting the forests down. People need more territory to live on the Earth. They enjoy driving their own cars, but on the other hand exhaust fumes cause air pollution. People use aerosols sprays and other chemicals every day. They destroy the ozone layer and it means the Earth's climate is changing. Our planet is getting warmer and warmer.
Something needs to be done about these problems before it is too late. Minsk is a city. We have to solve ecological problems of our native place by ourselves. It is a good idea to use alternative forms of energy and to recycle our rubbish. Planting more trees, using public transport or riding bicycles, using unleaded patrol can help us to avoid breathing difficulties in our city. I believe that ecological education is very important for every citizen. We are responsible for what is happening around us.

    1. Slava, I think you have misunderstood the task. The question is: What problems do big cities face? You need just to focus on this question.

  3. I think that land pollution is one of most major environmental issue in big cities. People dump rubbish in the streets. Also some factories throw out industrial waste and destroy ecosystem of large cities. Also sometimes people make dumps in nearest to their cities places and contaminate land. To protect our city we should recycle plastic, paper and glass, return bottles to bottle banks, buy food in ecological package and reuse old things.

  4. Water pollution. In our days in large cities there is such problem as the polluted water. People can't drink water from under the crane because water has brown color and an unpleasant smell. This water incorporates fluorine which can be the cause of increase of level of lead in blood, darkening of teeth and can cause various complications. Many people in flats put filters for water, but it not always helps therefore in water supply systems have to stand a professional cleaner and people have to drink clean water not to be ill.

    1. This problem is very topical nowadays. I know my parents had to install a filter that we could drink clear still water.

  5. There are a lot of environmental issues in big cities. For example:
    *land pollution
    *water pollution
    *noise pollution
    *rubbish
    *acid rains
It happens because of the carelessness of people.
We stopped to appreciate the purity and nature as a whole.

  6. We usually think that air pollution can be outdoors, but the air in your house or office could also be polluted. Sources of indoor pollution are: Mold and pollen Tobacco smoke Household products and pesticides Gases such as radon and carbon monoxide Materials used in the building such as asbestos, formaldehyde and lead
Also ventilation systems within buildings play a significant role in promoting indoor air pollution. Usually indoor air quality problems only cause discomfort, but sometimes it causes diseases, that show up much later, for example Legionnaires disease or even cancer.

    1. You have brought up very important issues. We sometimes ignore such dangerous things as mold. We should take care of our health more.

  7. Threat 1: air pollution
My solution of the problem: alternative transport. A lot of people in European countries changed cars on bicycles. There is a benefit for cities and human beings either. Air becomes cleaner, contamination decreases, people gain more health. Buses must be substituted by trams & subway.

    Threat 2: household waste
My solution of the problem: The waste must be split onto paper waste, plastic waste, glass waste, tin waste & BIO waste. For example, there is a small city in Italy – Bolzano. The government of the city obliged people to split the waste. The BIO masse from this waste is recycled into the natural gasses. They are the natural fuel for city buses. I think this is a wonderful idea of the local government.

Threat 3: water pollution impact on environment
My solution of the problem: Animals will drink clean, not polluted by carbon dioxide water if the management of factories put filters on factories tubing. We prevent animals from disappearing of species.

    1. Your solutions are great, but you should have focused more on city problems in this blog discussion. We are discussing problems and their impact on our life.

  8. In nowadays many big citys of the world meets some pollution problems , wich are all the same but hard to fix. This problems are:
Air pollution (Because of many factoryes wich produce some carbon dioxed and cars. Because of this , air some times don't meets recomended levels).
Enviromental pollution (Too many rubish destroys some forest and e.t.c. and also cause some diseases).
Too soft lavs (Because of this too many poachers still exhist, because incase if they are caught they will only have to pay some penalty).
And also, many people who don't care about our enviroment.

  9. Heat in the City
nowadays this is not a biggest problem but not one of the least.Since most people of color live in inner cities, they are twice as likely to die in a heat wave, and suffer from more heat-related stress and illnesses. My soulution of the problem: I think we should build more fountains or swimming areas or some small areas when you can stay or just relax in the shade.we need to install more air conditioning for example at the metro. i think that those solution of this problem could soulve problems with heat in the city.

    1. Stepan, when you use any material from the Internet, don't forget to make some changes to adapt it to the issues we are discussing (e.g. 'people of colour')

  10. I think people in big cities must take care of our environment because there are a lot of ecological problems in them.
Firstly we have big industrial enterprises in our cities. If we ignore the problem of air pollution it will become dirtier and dirtier. Moreover air pollution influences the life of animals and plants.
Enterprises which were built many years ago put their waste materials into water and atmosphere and pollute the environment. We have the same problem with transport in big cities.
One more problem is the way of clening roads in winter. If we don't use chemicals in a proper way we'll pollute our environment.
But the biggest problem is littering. Its very difficult to recycle plastic bottles. The best way is producing water and other drinks in aluminium cans or glass bottles, milk and juice in cartons can be recycled.

  11. Can you imagine what our cities will be like in the year 2067? Yet now we’ve discovered that our cities are under threat and, to make matters worse, it’s all our fault. One of the major problems of the city is air pollution. The factories in our cities are producing exhaust fumes. Also cigaette smoke produces 10 times more pollution than diesel car exhaust. They destroy the ozone layer, form blanket around the Earth. As a result we have too much ultraviolet radiation. People face with global warming.Cutting of trees is one of the major reasons of air pollution too. Burning of wood and fossil fuels is another reason of air pollution. Also, transport such as cars, buses, planes etc. give out a lot of smoke that pollutes the air. Due to air pollution, human develop more and more allergies and breathing problems.
Another big problem is watter pollution. Factories are polluting our water with dangerous chemicals. Also houses and industrials produce waste water that causes pollution in the lakes and rivers. Moreover many people perform their domestic activities like bathing, washing clothes and utensils, etc. in these sources of water.
To make things worse, industrial wastes are discharged into the water, leading to water pollution.
Consumption of this polluted water leads to diseases like cholera, typhoid, diarrhoea, etc. in human beings.
it’s not too late to solve these prolems. All we need to do is open our yes and act immediately.

  12. i think that the first problem in big city's is air pollution because people are building factories which throw smokes or polluted gases into the air. Also one more big problem to air pollution are cars because they throw away exhaust fumes which also can pollute the air.Furthermore i think that people are polluting world much more than factories or cars because we usually use aerosol sprays,a lot of chemicals,we were rubbishing so much that its very hard to reduce all rubbish that we always throwing away. All this problems only polluting land, air and water and can cause the hole in the ozone layer and then ultraviolet radiation goes throw the hole and can cause global warming and global warming can cause ice melting in Arctic and Antarctica and ice melting can cause the rising water levels and may sink the whole earth but this is just a piece of all enviromental problems in our world. So,people also cutting a lot of trees in forests sometimes they doing it to build a road in the forest but in most cases they doing this to get a lot of wood to build some houses or use them to heat themselves in their houses and all this can cause deforestation and if all trees will be cutted down then the oxygen will decrease and people will not be able to breathe and this will lead to the extinction of our race because cant breathe without oxygen.
